KTAMS: Poverty Line Hits 259,532 TL for Four-Person Family

The Cyprus Turkish Civil Servants Trade Union (KTAMS) has announced that the hunger threshold for a family of four stands at 48,117 TL, while the poverty line has reached 259,532 TL.

In a written statement, KTAMS President Serman Yiğit said the calculations were based on the dietary pattern required for a family of four to maintain a healthy diet, as provided by the Department of Inpatient Institutions under the Ministry of Health, together with average prices supplied to the union by the Statistical Institute.

According to the calculations, the mandatory daily food expenditure required for a healthy diet was estimated at 423.84 TL for an adult woman, amounting to 12,715 TL per month.

For an adult man, the figure was calculated at 433.44 TL per day and 13,003 TL per month.

For a child aged 13–18, the required expenditure was calculated at 438.61 TL per day and 13,158 TL per month, while the figure for a child aged 8–12 was 307.99 TL per day and 9,239 TL per month.

According to the poverty line calculation, a family of four needs to spend 48,117 TL per month on food and non-alcoholic beverages, 41,110 TL on transport, 37,918 TL on housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, 26,965 TL on recreation and culture, and 21,152 TL on education services.
