Cabinet Postpones EL-SEN Strike for 60 Days

The Council of Ministers has decided to postpone the strike launched by the Electricity Authority Employees’ Union (EL-SEN) for 60 days, citing the serious disruption to electricity services and their classification as an “essential service.”

The Council of Ministers decided to postpone the strike launched at the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (KIB-TEK) and all of its units for 60 days.

The decision, dated October 7, 2026, was made under the authority granted by Article 16(3) of the Collective Labour Agreements, Strikes and Referendums Law No. 42/1996.

The decision cited the nature of the strike launched by EL-SEN and/or other unions as causing serious disruption to essential services.

Accordingly, the strike launched at KIB-TEK and all of its units on October 5, 2026, was ordered to be postponed for 60 days, effective from October 7, 2026.
