The nurses appeared before a court in Nicosia today in connection with the incident, which occurred in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit two years ago.
In the first case, nurses Ç.S., K.Y., G.K.A., A.D. and M.A. appeared on charges of “negligent conduct.” The hearing was adjourned until December 3.
In a separate case, nurses A.D. and M.A. faced charges of “conduct seriously contrary to professional ethics and the dignity and honour of the profession.” That hearing was also adjourned until December 3.
Defence lawyers in both cases informed the court that their clients would not admit to the charges.
The incident occurred on October 26, 2024, in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Nicosia Emergency Hospital. Seven babies were fed formula contaminated with ethyl alcohol, resulting in the death of 20-day-old Mihrimah Toymuradov and the admission of six other infants to intensive care.
Five nurses were detained during the subsequent investigation but were later released pending trial.
