Kalecik Power Plant Capacity to Increase to 223 Megawatts
Aksa Energy will increase the installed capacity of the Kalecik Power Plant in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) from 188 megawatts to 223 megawatts through an additional investment of 35 megawatts under a supplementary protocol signed with the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority (Kıb-Tek). The company said the investment would help meet the TRNC’s growing energy needs.
According to Anadolu Agency, the company announced that the Kalecik Power Plant, which supplies approximately half of the TRNC’s electricity needs, would undergo a capacity expansion.
Under a supplementary protocol that came into effect as part of the agreement with Kıb-Tek, the plant’s installed capacity will rise from its current 188 megawatts to 223 megawatts.
An agreement signed between Aksa Energy and Kıb-Tek in 2023 extended the plant’s operating period until 2038.
“We Will Continue to Contribute to the TRNC’s Energy Security”
In a statement released by the company, Aksa Energy CEO and Executive Board Chair Naci Ağbal highlighted the importance of a strong and reliable energy infrastructure for economic and social development, particularly in island economies.
“We will continue to provide reliable and sustainable solutions to meet the TRNC’s growing energy needs and contribute to the island’s energy security in the coming period,” Ağbal said.
