Üstel: Our Goal Is Single-Party Rule
National Unity Party (UBP) leader and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has announced that a low-interest home construction loan scheme for young people will also be introduced after the election. “Our goal is single-party rule, five years of stability and new mega projects,” Üstel said.
Üstel met residents in Boğaztepe, Büyükkonuk and Yedikonuk, outlining the government’s record, projects planned for the next term and its election objectives.
Saying political stability had enabled the government to implement long-awaited reforms and investments, Üstel said it aimed to deliver new mega projects over the next five years.
“We Have Implemented Reforms One by One Thanks to Stability”
Recalling that the government had promised to bring stability to the country when it took office, Üstel said it had become one of the longest-serving administrations.
He noted that rural municipalities had faced serious financial difficulties in the past, struggling to carry out infrastructure investments and provide services to residents.
Üstel said significant steps had been taken to address these problems through the Municipalities Reform and cooperation between the government and local authorities. He also highlighted investments in the Büyükkonuk area.
“Our Goal Is to Form a Government Without Needing Coalition Partners”
Outlining his party’s election objectives, Üstel said he believed the UBP would emerge as the largest party.
“We will form the government again. What we want is to increase our number of MPs so that we can serve our people more quickly without needing coalition partners,” he said.
Üstel stressed the importance of holding general and local elections simultaneously, arguing that this would prevent the country from facing lengthy election-related restrictions and allow five uninterrupted years of government work.
“New Support for Mothers and Children in 2027”
Üstel also announced family support measures planned for 2027.
Under the proposals, working mothers with children aged between zero and six would receive childcare assistance equivalent to half the minimum wage.
Mothers who are not employed and are not registered with the social insurance system would receive financial assistance equivalent to one-third of the minimum wage.
The government also aims to eliminate taxes on essential products for children aged between zero and 12.
Üstel said the support measures had been included in the 2027 budget, with the aim of easing families’ financial burdens and ensuring children grow up in healthier conditions.
Highlighting the childcare difficulties faced by working mothers, Üstel said he was working with Büyükkonuk Mayor Fatma Çimen Tuğlu to establish a nursery in the area. He said the project, included in the new budget, was intended to meet a significant need among working families.
“The Home Construction Loan Will Be Introduced After the Election”
Üstel said helping young people remain in the country and become homeowners was among the government’s priorities. Following the rural land allocation schemes, social housing projects and the First Home Loan programme, the government would now introduce a Home Construction Loan scheme.
He said the new loan would be denominated in Turkish lira, carry a low interest rate and offer long repayment terms, with the government covering the difference in interest costs.
Üstel added that social housing projects had been relaunched in Güzelyurt after a 28-year gap and would be expanded to other districts.
“We Will Complete the Road to Boğaz and Open the Hospital by Year-End”
Üstel said most outstanding expropriation issues affecting the road project in the area had been resolved, with only two cases remaining. Once these were settled, he said, the road would be completed as far as Boğaz.
He added that the hospital was expected to open by the end of the year. Infrastructure and asphalt works on rural land plots allocated in 2011 would also resume after election restrictions were lifted.
Üstel said requests concerning administrative arrangements for neighbourhoods in the area would be discussed with the Supreme Election Board.
“Let Them Talk; We Will Get on With Serving the People”
Responding to criticism from the opposition, Üstel said the government’s priority was delivering projects and public services.
Modern Football Pitch Planned for Yedikonuk
Üstel also addressed young people’s request for a football pitch in Yedikonuk, saying the project had reached its final stage.
He said the goalposts at the site had been adjusted, a transformer had been installed, and the necessary surveys and permits for completing the pitch had been secured. The government aimed to put the project out to tender in the coming days, he added.
“Let them talk; we will serve our country. Our main concern is our people. Our aim is to strengthen the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and take it to a better place,” Üstel said, adding that he would continue announcing new projects for young people and families.
Üstel said new mega projects would be implemented under agreements with the Republic of Turkey, stressing that the UBP’s objectives were to maintain political stability, complete investments and deliver services to the public more quickly.
