Üstel: Free University Education to Begin in 2027
National Unity Party (UBP) leader and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel announced that young people in the TRNC would be offered free university education, as in EU countries and Turkey. The scheme, set to be introduced in 2027, aims to support students and ease the financial burden on families.
Under the proposed scheme, the state will cover the full tuition fees of TRNC citizens who gain admission to universities in the country through an examination administered by the Ministry of National Education in 2027.
Current university students who are TRNC citizens and have a grade point average of 3.00 or above will also be eligible for the support.
Üstel said the initiative aimed to support young people’s education and ease the financial burden on families who struggle to meet university tuition costs.
He added that the government wanted students to focus on their studies with fewer financial concerns, continue their education in their own country and prepare for the future with confidence.
“Every form of support for our young people’s education is an investment in our country’s future,” Üstel said.
