Filo Jet Victims’ Families Demand Justice Outside Kyrenia Court
Families who lost loved ones in the shipwreck off Kyrenia renewed their calls for justice for the 28 people who died, gathering outside Kyrenia Court.
The suspects appearing in court in connection with the Filo Jet disaster were protested by family members waiting outside the courthouse.
Following the hearing, Dilek Özbiler, who lost her mother, Nuray Zeytun Özbiler, in the disaster, issued a statement on behalf of the families.
Alleging that negligence had contributed to the disaster, Özbiler asked: “If these people did not cause anyone’s death through negligence and a lack of precaution, why did these people die?”
Expressing frustration with the investigation, she said: “It has been 55 days, and we are still in the same place.”
Özbiler said the families were devastated and that their wounds would never heal. She also questioned why the captain had failed to turn back despite being instructed to do so.
