In a message marking the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey and October 29 Republic Day, Üstel stressed that the republic was the strongest expression of the Turkish nation’s character of independence, its belief in national sovereignty and its determination to shape its own future through its own will.

Üstel said the republic was not merely a great victory of the past but also a historic responsibility carried towards future generations.

Describing October 29, 1923, when the Turkish nation’s struggle for independence was crowned with the establishment of the republic, as one of the greatest turning points in history, Üstel said: “We are celebrating with great pride and enthusiasm the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, established under the leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk through the determination, faith and sacrifices of our nation.”

Üstel continued:

“We, the Turkish Cypriots, know very well what this will means. Because our own history, too, has been written through great struggles for freedom, sovereignty and existence.”

“Our Ties With Turkey Are Based Not Only on a Shared Past but Also on a Shared Destiny and Future”

Üstel said the greatest source of strength for the Turkish Cypriot people in their struggle had been Motherland Turkey, which had stood by them under all circumstances.

“Today, as in the past, we regard the strength of the Republic of Turkey as our own strength and its success as our own success,” he said.

“Our ties with Turkey are based not only on a shared past but also on a shared destiny and future,” Üstel said, adding that, in line with the vision of the “Century of Turkey” under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, they were working resolutely to strengthen the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in every field, improve public welfare and lead the state towards a stronger future.

“The Republic Is Not Merely a Great Victory of the Past but a Historic Responsibility We Carry Towards Future Generations”

Reiterating that the republic was not merely a great victory of the past but a historic responsibility towards future generations, Üstel concluded his message as follows:

“With these feelings and thoughts, I wholeheartedly celebrate the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, our Motherland, on behalf of myself, my government and the Turkish Cypriot people.

“I commemorate with mercy, gratitude and respect all our heroes who fought for independence, particularly Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our republic, and his comrades-in-arms.

“Happy October 29 Republic Day.”
