Holguin: I Hope I Am Not the Only Optimistic Person on the Island
UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus Maria Angela Holguin, who met with President Tufan Erhürman ahead of next week’s trilateral meeting, said she remained optimistic about the Cyprus problem, adding: “I hope I am not the only optimistic person on the island.”
Following her meeting with President Tufan Erhürman, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus Maria Angela Holguin Cuellar said they were making preparations ahead of the trilateral meeting planned for next week and that she remained optimistic.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, which began at 11 am at the Presidential Palace and lasted one hour and 20 minutes, Holguin said the talks had served as preparation for next week’s trilateral meeting.
Noting that she and Erhürman had discussed a number of issues, Holguin said she maintained the optimism she had expressed in statements made in South Cyprus the previous day.
“I am optimistic. I hope I am not the only optimistic person on the island,” Holguin said.
Holguin said she was continuing her work and described her meeting with Erhürman as positive.
Holguin is scheduled to hold a trilateral meeting with President Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides next Monday.
