Bahçeli: No Fait Accompli Will Be Allowed in the TRNC’s Sovereign Territory
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli said he welcomed Libya’s approval of the Turkey-Libya Memorandum of Understanding on Maritime Jurisdiction Areas, stressing that no fait accompli would be allowed in the sovereign territories of Turkey and the TRNC in the Mediterranean.
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made statements on current issues during his party’s parliamentary group meeting.
“NO FAIT ACCOMPLI WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE TRNC’S SOVEREIGN TERRITORY”
Describing Libya’s approval on 20 October 2026 of the Memorandum of Understanding between Turkey and Libya on the Delimitation of Maritime Jurisdiction Areas as a welcome development, Bahçeli said no fait accompli would be permitted in the sovereign territories of Turkey and the TRNC in the Mediterranean.
Bahçeli said Greece, the Greek Cypriot Administration and Israel, which he accused of provoking them, as well as the European Union, which he said did not hesitate to criticise Turkey by adopting Greek Cypriot and Greek positions, were disturbed by the development.
“Dictating terms to Turkey and wagging a finger at it are not within the EU’s remit,” he said.
Stating that the “Terror-Free Turkey” and “Terror-Free Region” processes were of vital importance for Turkey and the countries in the region, Bahçeli said: “The Turkish nation has made its decision: terrorism will end and brotherhood will prevail.”
Noting that every decision taken could be questioned, Bahçeli said: “However, it is necessary to understand the distinction between criticism and exploitation, and between democratic dissent and provocation.”
Bahçeli added that attempting to turn the streets into scenes of tension and conflict could not be considered part of politics.
