According to a statement issued by the TDP Press Office, Zeki Çeler appeared on the “Gündem” programme hosted by Ahmet Özoy on Kıbrıs Objektif Web TV, where he outlined his party’s emergency action plan for the first 90 days, discussed preparations for the elections and assessed current issues in the country.

Stating that their priority was to limit parliamentary immunity to immunity for statements made from the parliamentary rostrum, Çeler said they would take initiatives to disclose population and citizenship data, investigate the ship disaster and address shortcomings in healthcare services. Emphasising that he was confident the TDP would emerge from the elections as the third-largest party, Çeler declared: “We will form a parliamentary group.”

“13 MEASURES IN PARLIAMENT, 27 INITIATIVES IN GOVERNMENT”

Çeler said their emergency action plan for the first 90 days included 13 legislative measures that they would bring onto Parliament’s agenda, whether in opposition or in government, while aiming to implement 27 initiatives once in government.

“OUR PRIORITY IS IMMUNITY FOR STATEMENTS FROM THE PARLIAMENTARY ROSTRUM”

Announcing that they would submit a constitutional amendment proposal to Parliament to limit parliamentary immunity to statements made from the parliamentary rostrum, Çeler recalled that all 50 of the party’s parliamentary candidates had signed a commitment on the issue, stressing that they were committed to accountable politics.

Çeler said they would submit a motion calling for the disclosure of population and citizenship data. He added that they would also take initiatives in Parliament to investigate the ship disaster of 30 August and examine shortages of medicines and medical supplies in hospitals.

“THEY ARE NOT CONVENING PARLIAMENT TO KEEP THE SCALE OF THE DAMAGE THEY HAVE CAUSED FROM COMING TO LIGHT”

Reacting to Parliament’s failure to convene, Çeler argued that the delay in starting budget discussions was pushing the country into uncertainty.

“They are apparently doing this so that Parliament does not convene, so that what has happened and the wreckage they have created do not come to light and are not discussed any further,” he said.

“FULL-DAY EDUCATION CANNOT BE IMPLEMENTED WITHOUT PREPARATION AND PLANNING”

Stating that full-day education needed to be planned with the necessary infrastructure and the participation of stakeholders, Çeler called for students’ nutritional needs to be met, a pilot scheme to be introduced and safety problems in container classrooms to be addressed.

Drawing attention to staff and medicine shortages in healthcare, Çeler said they aimed to establish a centralised appointment system accessible via the internet and telephone, as well as introduce health insurance.

Çeler said a joint security system could be established with Turkey for people entering the country. He also proposed regular public transport services and urban shuttle routes, while calling for support for boutique hotels in the tourism sector.

“TDP WILL BE THE THIRD-LARGEST PARTY; WE WILL FORM A PARLIAMENTARY GROUP”

Reiterating his confidence that the TDP would emerge from the elections as the third-largest party, Çeler said they would establish a parliamentary group.

Noting that the party had fielded municipal council candidates in nine municipalities, Çeler said they aimed to prepare these candidates for the 2030 local elections.
