Higher Coordination Council meeting

The Higher Coordination Council convened on Thursday upon the request of President Ersin Tatar.

The wildfire that destroyed thousands of acres of forest between Ardahan,Topçuköy, Mersinlik and Tatlısu was discussed in detail during the meeting which was held under the chairmanship of President Tatar.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri, the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Command Major General Sezai Öztürk, the Commander of the Security Forces Command Major General Zorlu Topaloğlu, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, the Director General of Police Ahmet Soyalan, the President of the Civil Defence Organization Atilla Karaca, the Prime Ministry Undersecretary Hüseyin Amcaoğlu, the Director of the TRNC Presidency Serkan İlseven, the President’s Special Representative Ergün Olgun, high level bureaucrats and head of the President’s Legal Affairs Ziba Akkurt attended the Higher Coordination Council meeting held at the TRNC Presidency.

Those attending exchanged views on ways to increase response time and coordination in battling such wildfires.

President Tatar for his part shared his views on the steps needed to be taken to restore the forest destroyed by the fire and revive the habitat in the area.

The president also requested the preparation of an updated version of a fire risk map as well as a detailed report on the rehabilitation of the areas affected from the fire.

Meanwhile, the latest political developments were also taken up during the meeting.
